Plastisol is a thick thermoplastic coating fused to the steel, not a paint film sitting on top of it.
It resists moisture, chipping, corrosion, and graffiti. The bench never needs weatherizing, sanding, or repainting.
That is the hidden math on outdoor seating. A bench refinished every third year costs you labor, staging, and downtime three times over before a coated bench is touched once.
Every published dimension is taken after the plastisol goes on, to a tolerance of 1/16". What the drawing says is what lands on your pad.
The frame underneath is powder-coated steel bent in contoured runs rather than welded at the corners, so no sharp joint holds water. Both are covered for 5 years.
All four patterns share the same frame, the same 72 1/8" seating surface, and the same 17" seat height.
What separates them is how much steel is in the seat and back. Shipping weight is the honest way to read that.
Diamond is an expanded metal bench surface and the lightest at 172 lbs. The open mesh lets water and grit fall straight through instead of pooling.
Perforated at 195 lbs punches round holes in solid sheet for a tighter, smoother place to sit.
Ribbed at 235 lbs and Slatted at 254 lbs carry the most material of the four. That extra 80 lbs is also theft deterrence on an unsupervised plaza.
Portable and surface mount are the same bench. It arrives on four anchor plates spanning 77 1/2".
You either bolt through them or you do not, so a plaza bench can be relocated seasonally without reordering.
Inground is a different frame. The legs run 24 7/16" below grade into concrete footings, the detail most municipal specs call for.
Overall it measures 80 1/2" long, 26 1/4" to 27" deep, and stands 33 3/4" to 34" high depending on pattern.
An unanchored 172 lb bench dragged into a fire lane or tipped onto a child is your liability, not the manufacturer's.
