Wabash Valley Contemporary Steel Backless Bench
A bench with a back only works facing one direction. On a median, a transit platform, a pool deck, half your seating ends up aimed at nothing.
Instead of planning the paving around the bench, a backless unit seats people both ways and stays out of the sightline. Same frame, same coating, no backrest.
Municipalities specify Wabash Valley because the plastisol outlasts the repaint cycle. Supply-A-City is your authorized distributor. USA-manufactured, free shipping.
72 1/8" Seating Surface | 16 7/8" Seat Height | Expanded Metal, Perforated, Ribbed or Slatted | Portable, Surface Mount or Inground | 8 Colors | 5-Year Warranty
It seats from both sides. One unit does the work of two on a median, a platform edge, or any island with foot traffic on both faces.
It also stays under sightlines. At 24 3/8" to the top of the end arm, it will not block a storefront window, a scoreboard, or a clear view into a play area.
The end arms still give people something to push off from on the way up. That matters more on a backless seat than on one with a back to lean against.
The seat is plastisol over steel — a thermoplastic skin bonded to the metal, not a paint layer resting on top of it.
It shrugs off moisture, chipping, corrosion and graffiti, so a bench on exposed paving never enters the repaint rotation at all.
That is the hidden math. Refinishing labor three times over the service life of one coated bench costs more than the bench did.
Every published dimension is measured after the coating goes on, to 1/16". The frame beneath is powder-coated steel bent in continuous runs rather than welded at the corners.
The assembly carries a 5-year Wabash Valley warranty.
Portable and surface mount are the same bench. It arrives on four anchor plates spanning 77".
Bolt through them where the bench has to stay put, or leave them free where you reconfigure seating by season. No reordering either way.
Inground is a separate frame with the legs set in concrete, which is what most municipal specs call for on unsupervised sites.
Overall it runs 79 7/8" long and 27 11/16" deep, on a 21 1/2" base footprint.
A 157 lb bench dragged into a fire lane is your liability, not the manufacturer's. Mounting plate covers are available where exposed hardware is a concern.
Eight colors run across every pattern and mount — Blue, Black, Green, Red, Yellow, Purple, Brown, and Sand.
Blue and Green move fastest through the plant. Red and Black follow. Yellow, Purple, Brown, and Sand are built to order.
Pattern comes down to how much steel is in the seat. Diamond is 157 lbs, Perforated 174, Ribbed 212, Slatted 222.
Heavier resists being dragged or tipped, which is worth paying for on an unsupervised plaza and wasted inside a fenced courtyard.
Freight is where bench quotes go sideways. A 222 lb bench on a pallet picks up liftgate, limited-access and call-before-delivery charges.
Shipping is included here, so the number you see is the number your PO gets cut for.
